Breckenridge Tops the Best

I strongly believe that Breckenridge has the monopoly of Summit County’s best. Whatever your pleasure is – food, entertainment or sports, you’ll find the right one for you in Breckenridge. It’s a fair assessment and I make sure to check the Summit Daily News for the annual “Best of Summit County” survey result to get updated. Following are some of the categories that placed Breckenridge up there for the 2008 awards.

Best Ski Mountain: That is correct. If you visit during the skiing season, make sure you have your pair of favorite skis with you. And the locals proudly recommend the Breckenridge Ski Resort. Why is Breck their top choice? First of all, Breckenridge Ski Resort has the appropriate terrain for all levels of skiing expertise. From Peak 7 to 9, you’ll find the “easiest” to the “expert” runs. Just know how skilled you are and find your appropriate peak. Featuring the most elevated lift in North America, a terrain suitable for free style skiing with a good measure of exciting turns, the title is truly deserved. Naturally, the residents are proud that they have the “Best Ski Mountain” and you can join them as they celebrate in the cafes or bars of Breckenridge.

Best Spot to People Watch: End your day at Summit County’s award-winning mountain by going to Main Street in Breckenridge, which is voted as the best place to go if you want to join an energetic crowd anytime of the day Whether you turn up at a bread shop in the morning or you are with your friends at a bar after an exciting day at the slope, make time to observe and enjoy the a fantastic scenery other than the mountains.

Most Interesting Hiking Trail: If your time in Summit County does not allow you to enjoy the slopes of its best ski mountain, don’t worry because you can go hiking through 7 miles of the Mohawk Trail. So, pack enough food that will sustain you through the seven-mile trail. You will pass by a ruined old mine and learn a bit of history, then, the Continental Falls and finally Mohawk Lake. You’ll also get a good view of Breckenridge.

Best, Most Popular Park: Breckenridge’s Carter Park was chosen by the residents of Summit County as the best due to its popularity as the place where they can bring their dogs but there were other reasons as well. One reason is that on High Street’s south end, Breckenridge Park is a great picnic ground, the ideal place to a jog or just run around as well as to play soccer, volleyball and tennis. In short there is space for a wide range of recreational activities.

Superior Golf Course: Jack Nicklaus designed the 27-hole Breckenridge Golf Course in Summit County. On top of its legendary designer, the fact that it is at over 9,000 feet above sea level seals its standing as the best golf course in the county. Playing golf at a high altitude is an experience you should not miss. Breckenridge Golf Course’s superlative labels are not just from the locals, it was recognized as the “Toughest Mountain Course” by the Colorado Golfer magazine.

No doubt, there are more to include in this “best list.” There are other “bests” in other categories that Breckenridge offers.  For your planning benefit, another item in the list of Summit County’s best is Breckenridge vacation rentals, which can really help you find the right lodging accommodation. Anyway, you can always verify my list. You may end with a longer list after a visit to Breckenridge.
