Breckenridge Vaccations for the Non-Skier

Picture
All too often, people think that planning a winter vacation to Colorado is reserved exclusively for skiers or snowboarders.  While it’s certainly true that the skiing and boarding are unbeatable in Colorado, there are plenty of activities for those who prefer to walk rather than glide.  And, there’s no better town to experience the many other faces of a Colorado winter than Breckenridge.

Winter Wonderland.  Other than inside a snow globe, there is no place that you will find a truly perfect, Victorian-inspired Main Street than Breckenridge, Colorado.   Winter comes alive in Breckenridge as the town lights its Christmas tree on Main Street, amidst the countless shops, restaurants, and galleries that line the street.  Horse-drawn carriages offer sleigh rides to those with a bit of extra time, while a free town shuttle carries shoppers who are serious about covering ground.  Whatever approach you take in tackling Main Street, you are sure to feel the magic that only a mountain town can bring to the meaning of winter.

Activities for the non-skier.  Just because you’ve never quite caught the skiing bug doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t like winter sports at all.  Many non-skiers find snowshoeing a better fit for them.  And, with the unlimited trails and snowy terrain surrounding Breckenridge, you’ll have no problem finding a place to snowshoe.  You might choose a groomed trail with incline for a workout, or a short powdery walk in your vacation rental’s backyard might be more your style.  Either way, snowshoeing is a fun and popular sport in Breckenridge with rentals available for those who don’t own their own gear.  On the other hand, if you’re up for trying an activity with a completely different focus, Breckenridge offers dog sledding through some of its most beautiful areas.  Ice-skating and snowmobiling are also popular activity choices.  And, of course, don’t forget the pleasure that comes just from plopping down and making a snow angel or starting a snowball fight with your kids.  Better yet, use your Breckenridge vacation as a time to finally make that perfect snowman.

Entertainment Abounds.  The best thing about Breckenridge is the variety it has to offer for just about any type of vacationer.  A comedy club, movie theatre, and playhouse are all fun ways to spend an evening out in town.  And, with the variety of local restaurants, breweries, and pubs, you won’t go hungry or thirsty in Breckenridge.  Finally, for those just wanting a little rest and relaxation away, book a day in one of Breckenridge’s many spas for a bit of pampering.  Plus, from the International Snow Sculpture Championships to the Spring Massive, the town of Breckenridge hosts several free events throughout the winter season that compliment vacations perfectly.

Home Away from Home.  Breckenridge vacations are best approached with the perfect accommodation choice.  While some of the larger hotels might offer added bonus features such as hot tubs and pools, you can normally find these bonuses at condos and townhomes that give you more space and even more benefits.  A fully stocked kitchen will help you spend winter days indoors, munching on snacks while cuddled up by the fire, and an extra bedroom for the kids will keep your family from reaching its threshold of togetherness.

So, don’t feel left out if your Breckenridge vacation doesn’t include a lift ticket.  You’ll not only find plenty to do in Breck, but you’ll find yourself in good company off the mountain.  And, who knows, maybe next year you’ll throw a ski lesson into your travel plans.  However, good luck fitting it into your schedule.  With so much off-mountain excitement, you’ll certainly have to prioritize.
